While today’s Nintendo Direct offered up a whole menu of amazing new indie games that will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch, one of the big one’s that stuck out was Image & Form’s SteamWorld Dig 2! One of my personal favorite independent games of the past 5 years, that originally launched on the Nintendo 3Ds that subsequently got a fantastic sequel in the form of SteamWorld Heist a strategic RPG, is finally getting a proper sequel.
Check out the trailer above!
This time around we’ll be playing as Dorothy, the plucky young vendor from the first game. Rusty is nowhere in sight, and perhaps, that might be what leads Dorothy on this new mission? In the trailer we get to see her sport many of the moves we were accustomed to from playing the first game. So far we haven’t seen any new mechanics just yet, but given how the first one operated, we’re sure to see new upgrades and items specifically tailored to Dorothy.
SteamWorld Dig operated very much in the same vein as Dig Dug and Metroid. Effectively creating your own map (that’s procedurally generated) and accessing new areas with newfound abilities the further down you get. As a fan of the original I’m quite excited to get my hands on this new title from Image & Form Games. No word yet on a specific release date, but we’ll be sure to have more information once it arrives.
