Nintendo has been on a blitzkrieg lately involving anyone infringing on their copyrights (recently we wrote about a Kickstarter book project that currently has been suspended due to the same reasons), so I suggest you check out this fan film trailer ASAP! Developed by California developers EmberLab and musician Theophany, you can tell a lot of love and work is going into this project. Typically I’m not impressed with fan films, and it’s not that I hate creativity, I’m just used to quality production. That said, this Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask trailer looks to have that in spades. Thanks to Tatiana of Gamezone for bringing it to our attention.
There’s been talk of Nintendo working on live action productions of some of their properties especially the Legend of Zelda, but nothing has come to fruition just yet. But we do know they are interested in returning into the realm of film and television entertainment. Shigeru Miyamoto has played with the idea when he released three Pikmin shorts during the release of Pikmin 3. And there was also that talk of working with Sony to product films at one point as well.
It’s a shame that a lot of fan films like these never get far in development due to cease and desist letters and such. One can only hope that they still produce it in the shadows, only to let it out for a brief moment of fame for all to see, only to go back into the dark again.
