At TGS this week during their conference, Sony revealed a new trailer for their VR headset as well as a change in name. No longer the Morpheus, Playstation VR represents exactly what Sony is looking to offer new and old audiences. The trailer (you can see above) showcases new software for the upcoming headset with a mix of minigames and social lifestyle like games as well.
So far there hasn’t been much in terms of substantial game support for the apparatus, but that’s looking to change with Final Fantasy XIV looking to get VR support.
It’s great that many games will be adopting the use of the VR headset but when it comes to new peripherals like these, you always wonder where the accessory specific games will come from. Then again, it’s probably not best to spend too much time in VR so it makes sense to keep the games short and light.
What do you think of the name change and the new assortment of games shown? Excited? I feel like I’m still on board to being an early adopter. We’ll have to wait and see how much it will cost first. Sony hasn’t revealed a solid release date yet but only that it will be coming in the first half of 2016 with more news on the way. That said, perhaps we’ll find out at this year’s Playstation Experience in San Francisco.
